Singles Ministry

The Single Adult Ministry supports single adults of all ages by providing spiritual and personal support within a friendly, caring, community setting. The singles ministry follows Columbia's mission statement, Igniting Passion for Jesus Christ from Metro Washington to the World.

The singles group offers a variety of ministries to help meet the needs of single adults:

  • Ignition Groups (e.g., Bible studies, small groups) meet on Sunday mornings, Saturday evenings, and other times throughout the week. Each group studies a different topic.

  • Monthly lunch that fosters community and informs singles of ongoing ministry opportunities. The lunch is usually the second Sunday of each month following the third worship service (12:30 p.m.).

  • Social activities. There is usually at least one social or recreational activity each month, from eating out to playing games. A social activity is usually planned for the third Saturday of each month, either during the day or after the 6:29 Service.

  • Wednesday Connection is an informal gathering that seeks practical ways to apply Biblical teachings. It combines fellowship with a time of Bible study. It meets Wednesday nights at 7:45 p.m. in room 229.

  • Service projects. Singles serve together at Columbia's Food Pantry from 9:30 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of each month. The Food Pantry is located on the first floor of the church’s office building located at 301 North Washington Street (one block from the main church building). Singles also participate in numerous church-wide missions opportunities.

  • Retreats. In 2008 the singles group will have two weekend retreats at Columbia’s Retreat Center located just west of Winchester, VA. The retreats, which will be May 2-4 and November 14-16, are a time of fellowship and spiritual growth.

Though the Single Adult ministry has many activities, the ministry is not designed to segregate or isolate the singles from the rest of the church. Instead, the ministry helps singles grow in faith while developing community and finding places of ministry throughout the church.

For more information about the Single Adult Ministry or specific activities, contact Eric Reiser, Single Adult Ministry Coordinator, at 703-534-5740, ext. 270 or email.
